West Sussex leaves unelected Regional Assembly

The Midhurst & Petworth Observer reports that West Sussex County Council has decided to withdraw from the South East of England Regional Assembly (SEERA), the equivalent of West Midlands Regional Assembly (WMRA) in the south west euroregion.
West Sussex County Council leader, Councillor Henry Smith, said that from 2009 the £31,612 annual subscription to SERA would […]

Farmer let down by AWM

The regional quangos all have one thing common (actually, it’s several things, but bear with me on this one) - they are all based in metropolitan areas, usually in Birmingham.
Little wonder, then, that this farmer feels let down by Advantage West Midlands:
Rob Keen grows fruit and vegetables on Over Farm, near Gloucester. The flood cost […]

Advantage West Midlands (AWM), the unelected regional development agency, has made the biggest single “investment” of any of England’s regional development agencies by putting £100m into the refurbishment of New Street Station.
The refurbishment is costing the taxpayer £400m but will not increase the capacity of the station.  Because the approach to Birmingham New Street is below ground, […]

Councillor criticses WMRA

Mark Heenan, a Councillor at Stafford Borough Council, is complaining that the unelected West Midlands Regional Assembly is dictating to the council how many houses and how much office and industrial space must be built in Stafford.
This is a common complaint that we hear from councillors - they resent having to follow dictats from unelected […]

Telford joins City Region

Telford Council have announced that they are to join the City Region limited company.
Aside from all the concerns this brings around payment of wages, share holdings, pension payments, opt out fees and the like, the major question on most peoples’ lips is “why?”
The leader of the council, Councillor Andrew Eade, says it is necessary for […]

We’re back!

West Midlands NO! disappeared off the internet just over a week ago afollowing a fire at the datacentre housing the servers with our website (amongst others) on.
Unfortunately, the datacentre were very naughty and didn’t perform the off-site backups our hosting company had been paying them to do and as a result, we lost our website.
However, […]
